RESTORING YOUR SMILE
Fillings
A dental filling is a dental restorative material used to repair and restore the function and structure of a tooth that has been damaged due to decay, fractures, or other factors. The procedure involves removing the decayed or damaged portion of the tooth and filling the resulting cavity with a suitable material.
There are several types of dental filling materials available, including:
Amalgam Fillings: These are silver-colored fillings made from a mixture of metals, including mercury, silver, tin, and copper. Amalgam has been used for decades and is known for its durability.
Composite Fillings: These are tooth-colored fillings made from a mixture of resin and glass or quartz particles. They blend in with the natural tooth color, making them a popular choice for visible areas.
The choice of filling material depends on factors such as the location of the filling, the extent of the damage, aesthetic considerations, and the patient's preferences. We’ll evaluate your specific situation and recommend the most appropriate type of filling for your needs.
Dental Crowns
A dental crown, also known as a dental cap, is a tooth-shaped covering that is placed over a damaged or decayed tooth to restore its shape, size, strength, and appearance. Crowns can be made from various materials, including porcelain, ceramic, metal alloys, or a combination of materials. They are custom-made to fit snugly over the prepared tooth and are bonded into place.
Reasons for getting a dental crown include:
Protection for a weak or fractured tooth.
Restoration of a tooth with a large filling.
Covering a tooth after root canal treatment.
Improving the appearance of a severely discolored or misshapen tooth.
Covering a dental implant.
Dental Bridges
A dental bridge is used to replace one or more missing teeth by "bridging" the gap between two existing teeth or dental implants. The bridge helps restore the appearance of the smile, maintain proper bite alignment, and prevent the remaining teeth from shifting.
Both dental crowns and bridges are fabricated in a dental laboratory based on impressions taken by the dentist. We’ll prepare your teeth to be treated, take accurate impressions, and provide you with a temporary restoration while the permanent crown or bridge is being made. Once the final restoration is ready, it will be cemented or bonded into place, restoring the function, appearance, and health of your teeth and smile.
The choice between a dental crown and a dental bridge, as well as the material used, depends on your specific dental needs, the condition of your teeth.
